RM of McLeod’s story
The Rural Municipality of McLeod No. 185 incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. It lies in the southeast part of the province and surrounds the villages of Lemberg and Neudorf. The RM office is in Neudorf.
Several buildings from the early settlement years are still standing. The Zion Lutheran Church was built in 1892 and served its congregation until June 1964. Since then a historical service has been held there every June.
The Weissenberg School, a one-room building put up in 1900, was the first separate (Catholic public) school in Saskatchewan. It went by several names over the years, including the Weissenberg Roman Catholic Public School, the Weissenberg Separate School and finally the Weissenberg Teacherage, and it stayed in service until 1964.
At Pheasant Forks, a heritage site includes a church and a school. Primitive Methodist colonists built the church, first called the Zion Methodist Church or Pheasant Forks Church, in 1905, and it was used until 1963. The four-room school was added in 1920.
